FAQs: Visual Storytelling with Indi Dust

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you understand how visual storytelling can enhance your project and what to expect from our process.

What is a visual storyteller?

A visual storyteller uses art and design to convey complex ideas, emotions, and narratives, making information more engaging and accessible. Indi Dust does live event visual storytelling, but specialises in strategic visual storytelling for organisations. Sometimes a visual storyteller at events will be called a graphic recorder or scribe.

When and why do I need a visual storyteller?

You need a visual storyteller when you want to enhance communication, boost engagement, and make lasting impressions—especially in presentations, workshops, or strategic meetings.

How does live event visual storytelling work?

During live events, a visual storyteller captures key discussions and ideas in real-time, creating visual summaries that help participants engage, retain, and act on the content. It can be done analgoue (on a whiteboard or foam board) or digital with an ipad and projected onto a screen. A visual storyteller can work in-person or remotely, depending on the needs of your event.

What’s the process to get a strategic visual for my org?

The process begins with a discovery session to understand your goals, followed by research, concept development, and iterative design to create visuals that align with your strategy.
Timelines vary depending on the project’s scope, but initial concepts can be developed within a few days, with final visuals completed in 2-4 weeks.
